hoomph, not humph: how to say and spell our name

how-do-i-pronounce-hoomph-1600x1000

We’re not your typical HR company – and let’s be honest, hoomph isn’t your run-of-the-mill name, either.

Since our big rebrand in 2024, we’ve had a good giggle at the wonderfully creative ways people try to spell and say it. We’ve seen everything from humf and hoomp to hoof, hoompf, and our personal favourite… hmopf (we’re still not sure how that one happened, but we’re impressed).

Why hoomph?

Because we’re humans with oomph.

When we rebranded from e-volveHR in 2024, we wanted a name that better reflected the energy, values, and real human connection we bring to our work. We’re bold, fun, and a little bit unconventional – just like the companies we help.

We're all about bringing that extra energy and enthusiasm to human resources, and our services are designed to give your business that extra oomph it needs to thrive, so hoomph works in multiple senses.

How do you say hoomph?

hoomph rhymes with oomph.

As in, that special energy, impact, gusto, and enthusiasm needed to go the extra mile – something we bring into every client relationship. Let’s break it down sound by sound:

  • h as in hand

  • ʊ as in foot

  • m as in moon

  • f as in fish

So no, there’s no long ‘oo’ sound like in ‘boo’ or ‘goose’, and definitely no sharp ‘p’ sounds happening here. You’re basically saying oomph with a non-silent h at the front.

How not to say hoomph (but thanks for the laughs)

Shall we share some of our favourite inventive misspellings and mispronunciations? Oh, go on then…

  • Not humph (as in ‘humph, I’m grumpy’)

  • Not hoomp (like booting a ball into space)

  • Not humf (oddly camel-esque)

  • Not hoof (neigh thanks)

  • Not hoompf (a valiant effort)

  • Not hmopf (…bless you?)

Still unsure? Here’s our team giving it a whirl:

Fun, isn’t it? We like it. It’s got all the punch and personality you’d expect from a people-first HR consultancy that does things differently.

Ok, but how do you spell hoomph?

It’s h-o-o-m-p-h. Just like ‘oomph’, but with an h at the front.

And just to help our team sleep better at night, please keep it lowercase. Not Hoomph, not HOOMPH, or any other variation. It's a small detail, but it’s part of what makes us friendly and human – not some formal corporate on the outskirts, dressing our words up in a suit and tie.

Welcome to the hoomph gang

Now you know how to say it, you can drop it into conversation like a pro. Try these for starters:

  • “This launch needs a bit more hoomph.”

  • “Our onboarding process has no hoomph – let’s fix that.”

  • “Shall we hire a HR team that brings real hoomph to our growth?”

Whether you’re scaling a tech company, searching for new talent in the gaming sector, or just someone who needs a little more oomph in their HR – you now know how to summon us.
