We’re not your typical HR company – and let’s be honest, hoomph isn’t your run-of-the-mill name, either.
Since our big rebrand in 2024, we’ve had a good giggle at the wonderfully creative ways people try to spell and say it. We’ve seen everything from humf and hoomp to hoof, hoompf, and our personal favourite… hmopf (we’re still not sure how that one happened, but we’re impressed).
Why hoomph?
Because we’re humans with oomph.
When we rebranded from e-volveHR in 2024, we wanted a name that better reflected the energy, values, and real human connection we bring to our work. We’re bold, fun, and a little bit unconventional – just like the companies we help.
We're all about bringing that extra energy and enthusiasm to human resources, and our services are designed to give your business that extra oomph it needs to thrive, so hoomph works in multiple senses.
How do you say hoomph?
hoomph rhymes with oomph.
As in, that special energy, impact, gusto, and enthusiasm needed to go the extra mile – something we bring into every client relationship. Let’s break it down sound by sound:
h as in hand
ʊ as in foot
m as in moon
f as in fish
So no, there’s no long ‘oo’ sound like in ‘boo’ or ‘goose’, and definitely no sharp ‘p’ sounds happening here. You’re basically saying oomph with a non-silent h at the front.
How not to say hoomph (but thanks for the laughs)
Shall we share some of our favourite inventive misspellings and mispronunciations? Oh, go on then…
Not humph (as in ‘humph, I’m grumpy’)
Not hoomp (like booting a ball into space)
Not humf (oddly camel-esque)
Not hoof (neigh thanks)
Not hoompf (a valiant effort)
Not hmopf (…bless you?)
